Temperatures are set to dip in Hong Kong over the weekend, as polls open for the “patriots only” legislative election on Sunday.
“An intense northeast monsoon will bring cool weather to southern China in the next few days,” the Observatory said on Friday, as Tropical Cyclone Rai moves across the Philippines and enters the South China Sea.
The mercury will dip as low as 15 degrees Celsius on Saturday, with lows of 14 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Temperatures will remain under 20 degrees Celsius over the next four days.
The cycle “will turn to a northerly track and weaken gradually on Sunday, but its subsequent movement and intensity remain uncertain. The cloud bands associated with Rai will bring rainy weather to the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of Guangdong early to midweek next week,” the Observatory added.
Rai is classed as a severe typhoon, which means it has maximum sustained wind speeds of between 150 to 184 km/h.
Rain will pick up early next week, with temperatures set to dip again over the Christmas weekend.
