Ordinary passport holders from the six European countries may travel or do business in China without a visa for 15 days. The trial will continue until November 30, 2024.

“This decision will facilitate travel to China for many German citizens to an unprecedented extent,” Patricia Flor, Germany’s ambassador to China, said X, formerly Twitter.

She added that visa-free travel for Chinese visiting Germany would only be possible if approved by European Schengen Agreement members.

China’s economy continues to suffer after years of zero-Covid policies, amid a flailing property market.
