Hong Kong movie icon Jackie Chan has said he wants to join the Chinese Communist Party.
“I am very honoured to be Chinese, but I am jealous that you are Chinese Communist Party members,” the actor told an audience at a forum in Beijing according to state-run CCTV footage.
“I think the Chinese Communist Party is really just so great,” he continued. “Whatever they promise, they don’t need 100 years to accomplish, they can get it done in a few decades. I want to be a Communist Party member.”
Chan’s comments were made during a state-organised forum last Thursday.
The actor is a member of the political advisory committee for its top legislative body and vice-chair of the China Film Association.
