Al-Jazeera English has reported on the fight against the Hong Kong government’s ban on digital media outlets. The report, which was broadcast internationally on Wednesday, comes a week after the Ombudsman ruled the ban to be “vague” and “unfair”.

The government told HKFP that it was now reviewing the long-running policy, but it denied access to a reporter during Sunday’s Chief Executive Committee election vote count. Seven local digital media outlets have now signed a joint statement urging reform. International media watchdog Reporters Without Borders voiced support for the statement.

HKFP featured in Al-Jazeera’s Listening Post programme earlier this year in a segment about the rise of new media in the city.
