The United Filipinos organisation celebrated its 31st anniversary in Central on Sunday. The event highlighted the #OFWs4Change agenda, which was crafted during a summit held on June 19.

The group demanded action on the agenda, which calls for the abolition of the Overseas Employment Certificate, the lowering of passport fees and the extension of passport validity. The agenda also included increasing the budget for services to domestic workers.

The group called for newly-elected Filipino president Rodrigo Duterte to address the “tanim-bala” scam, in which bullets were allegedly planted at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport as a means of extortion.

The day began with a Thanksgiving mass. A parade focusing on the calls of the June 19 summit was then held.

The organisation set up game booths which highlighted the demands of domestic workers and served as an education tool for domestic workers to help them be more aware of the issues surrounding their community.

Wellness services booths set up by partner organisations also offered massages as well as blood pressure checks.
