Masked attackers gunned down and killed a man as he left a shop in broad daylight, blasting him in the head and heart before escaping in a car in Cangzhou, Hebei Province.

The victim and a friend were leaving the store carrying what appeared to be alcohol when the attackers struck on Saturday, according to news website the thepaper.cn.

Surveillance camera footage obtained by the news site showed the moment the pair spotted their attackers and attempted to flee.

While one appeared to make a getaway, the other was shot into the leg and was seen crawling into a nearby hair salon, followed by his attackers. Seconds later the masked men were seen running from the salon and making their getaway in a waiting car.

Police said the victim, whose last name was Gong, was shot three times – in the leg, head and heart. The website cited Gong’s family as saying he had a “huge hole” in his chest.

Oficials in Gong’s native Daiqiying Village said he was elected head of the village committee in February this year, according to the website.

State broadcaster CCTV reported Gong, 42, had previously been jailed several times for wounding people. He was released from prison in October 2014.

State news agency Xinhua said Monday that the main suspect, surnamed Zhang, had been arrested. A car and gun were confiscated, Xinhua added.
