People gathered in Tiananmen Square, in the heart of China’s capital Beijing, to witness the flag-raising ceremony and celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Saturday morning.

The previous day, China’s State Council met to mark the occasion. According to state-media, the country’s leader Xi Jinping was joined by officials including Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu and Wang Huning at a reception held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
