The views of medical experts should be balanced with those of business experts when deciding Covid-19 policy, the chair of the Lan Kwai Fong Allan Zeman has said.

“At the moment, I know the so-called health experts, everyone has a different opinion of what to do,” he told RTHK on Friday. “But I think we need to balance that with maybe three or four business experts as well, who can balance between the health and the way forward, because otherwise Hong Kong itself will die. It will not exist.”
He said that restaurants saw a dip of between 20 to 25 per cent of the usual trade during Lunar New Year, as he warned of a “huge amount of bankruptcies” among bars, clubs, restaurants and gyms unless subsidies are handed out quickly.
A vaccine bubble plan is set to be rolled out on February 24, making it compulsory for patrons of bars and clubs to show evidence of vaccination.
The “father of Lan Kwai Fong,” Hong Kong Island’s F&B district, lost in the Election Committee constituency of the “patriots only” Legislative Council election last December.

Meanwhile, University of Hong Kong epidemiologist Benjamin Cowling told RTHK that the authorities should focus on vaccinating the elderly rather than children, owing to the spike in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks.
As of Thursday, Hong Kong has seen 14,584 cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic and 213 deaths.
