The T1 storm signal was cancelled at lunchtime on Tuesday as Severe Tropical Storm Rai skirted the coast of Guangdong.
“Rai will gradually depart from the territory this afternoon and will continue to weaken. It no longer poses a threat to the territory,” the Observatory said.
“Although Rai will depart from Hong Kong, the northeast monsoon will still affect the territory. There will still be occasional strong winds offshore and on high ground,” the Observatory added.

The city is set for a chilly Christmas weekend, though temperatures may rise towards the middle of next week.

Rain is set to continue until the weekend with lows of 10 degrees Celsius expected on Monday.
“An intense winter monsoon is expected to reach the coast of southern China on Christmas Day. The weather will become cold appreciably over the region afterwards,” according to the Observatory.
