Hong Kong reported no locally acquired Covid-19 infections on Saturday – a first in four months.
The news signals an easing of the fourth wave of the coronavirus after an outbreak at fitness centres was thwarted earlier in March.
On Saturday, the city reported just six imported new cases from India, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippes. On Friday, 11 new cases were detected.
Microbiologist Yuen Kwok-yung told RTHK on Saturday that any relaxation of social distancing measures would need to be considered carefully, and the public should not let their guard down.
So far, Hong Kong has seen 11,446 cases and 205 deaths from the virus.
