Hong Kong’s sweltering heat is set to continue into the Buddha’s Birthday public holiday on Tuesday, though rain is predicted for later in the week.
Temperatures hit 34.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday – the hottest day of the year so far. The Hot Weather Warning was hoisted by the Observatory at 6:45am.
The heat landed several hikers in hospital over the weekend, as an anticyclone in the South China Sea brought hot weather to the region.
Relative humidity reached 70 per cent.
On Monday, temperatures are expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius once more according to the Observatory. However, by Wednesday sunny periods will be broken up with showers, which are set to continue into the weekend.
