Two construction workers are missing after a work platform collapsed on the project site of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge.
The accident occurred around 3pm on Wednesday. Three workers fell into the sea after the platform collapsed. Two others landed on a structure nearby, sustaining injuries on their heads and bodies.
One of the three workers who fell into the sea swam back to shore afterwards. The three rescued workers were sent to North Lantau Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital.
Firefighters and the Government Flying Service have been deployed to search for the two missing workers.
A worker was cited as saying that the accident took place offshore and the site could only be reached by boat. He said the workers who fell into the water wore safety belts attached to machines on the platform.
The Labour Department has deployed staff to investigate the incident.
Since construction started in 2011, several accidents took place at the project site. There have been eight fatal industrial accidents on the site over the last six years, according to Apple Daily.
Update 20:19: One of the missing workers was found around 7pm, but was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. Another worker is still missing.
