Temperatures are set to fall on Wednesday night as northerly winds bring a cold front to Hong Kong.

Lows of 11 degrees Celsius are expected on Friday, although it is expected to become warmer again next week.

“An intense northeast monsoon associated with a cold front will arrive at the coastal areas of Guangdong [on Wednesday night],” said the Observatory. “It will be cold over the region in the next couple of days.”

“With the monsoon moderating gradually, temperatures over the south China coast will rise gradually next week.”

The period of cold weather will come after the warmest January ever recorded in Hong Kong.

The mean temperature last month was 18.5 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees above normal. The cold weather warning was only raised once, for less than 24 hours between January 21 and 22.
