According to the Hong Kong Observatory, the depression – currently off the coast of the Philippines – is expected to become a severe tropical storm by Saturday and a typhoon by Monday.
The Observatory predicts that the storm will be within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong by Sunday.
A bright, if not cloudy, weekend lays ahead though Tuesday will bring rain the territory.
Temperatures will range between 24 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius over the next nine days.
