A man who accidentally shot a “dancing aunty” with an air gun while she was dancing in a local football field was arrested by authorities in Guangxi province on Wednesday for endangering public safety, according to Xinhua. He may also face charges for possessing firearms, which are forbidden in China.
Middle-aged and elderly women who participate in square dancing, a popular pastime in China, are often referred to as “dancing aunties”. They dance in groups on public squares and in parks.

According to Xinhua, the man was annoyed with the level of noise emitted by the speakers, which were placed near his home in Yangshuo County, Guangxi province. He shot his air gun at a speaker on March 3 when a “dancing aunty” approached to see why the device had been emitting crackling noises.
The woman was shot in the leg and afterwards found small pellets on the ground. She reported the case to the police.
The man said that he had been bothered by the noise levels and had tried to talk with the dancing women about the issue. The dancing aunties reportedly mocked him when he asked them to quiet down.
