A white sports car rammed into a double decker bus on Tai Po Road, Sha Tin early Wednesday morning, killing one and injuring eight others. Police closed off part of the Tai Wai-bound lane near Luk Hop Village following the accident.

The driver of the Toyota Mark X died in hospital, police told HKFP. The bus driver and seven passengers sustained light injuries.

The sports car was badly damaged.

Apple Daily cited witnesses as saying the sports car lost control and veered into oncoming traffic in the opposite lane, colliding headlong with the KMB 81 bus en route from Jordan to Wo Che.

The impact of the crash destroyed the car and badly damaged the front of the bus. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
