A 48-year-old Hong Kong man made a dramatic overnight dash across the border last night after he was hacked by a friend of his wife in Shenzhen.

The man, surnamed Lau, fled back to Hong Kong via Huanggang Port at around 2:30am on Monday with injuries to the back of his hand and his thumb, police told HKFP. Lau later sought treatment at North District Hospital.

The victim told police he was attacked in his wife’s home in Shenzhen by a man in his early 40s following a “relationship dispute.” The attacker was about 1.7 metre tall.

Police told HKFP they would investigate the case but wouldn’t be able to arrest the suspect if the crime happened in the mainland.
