A policeman in China successfully saved a boy who was hanging on a cliff next to a waterfall in a daring rescue mission which won the applause of netizens.

With the help of around a dozen people, the officer in southwestern China’s Guizhou descended into a narrow gap between two cliffs using ropes as a harness.

Pictures from China News Network show how the policeman reached the boy and grabbed him whilst water was raging around them. The pair were pulled up by other police officers and residents holding onto the ropes.

The boy fell into the gap on Sunday afternoon when he was playing nearby with his friends, the news portal said.

He managed to grab onto a stone before rescuers came.
